Japanese dragon scale chain maille-a very special chain maille

Summary: You may think that jumprings are only used to connect elements. But we’ll teach you that you can make more with them! Learn how to make this intricate chain using nothing but jumprings.

Instructions:

Step 1: Make the first part of the Japanese dragon scale chain

1st, add 3 light brown jumprings onto a pink one. Repeat to make a second set.

2nd, connect the two groups with a red copper jumprings. Double the pink jumprings.

3rd, loop a pink jumprings through two light brown jumprings, one from each group, and add four light brown jumprings to it.

4th, double the pink jumprings just added. Insert a pink jumprings between the layers formed by the previous pink jumprings so that it encircles three light brown jumprings as shown below. These are called floating jumprings.

Step 2: The result should look like this from a side view:

Step 3: Add the floating jumprings

1st, add another floating jumpring around three light brown jumprings in one corner.

2nd, loop a pink jumpring through the two light brown jumprings encircled by a pink one; add two light brown jumprings to it. See them in the bottom right corner of the picture.

3rd, add another one on the other side of the floating jumpring.

4th, loop a pink jumpring through two light brown jumprings, placed in bottom; add two light brown jumprings.

5th, double the pink jumpring just added, and then add one more floating jumpring.

6th, the result looks like this.

Step 4: Continue to add floating jumprings

1st, add two floating jumprings at the bottom.

2nd, add a pink jumpring to the two light brown jumprings just encircled by a pink one; add two light brown jumprings.

3rd, double the pink jumpring just added. Add a pink jumpring to the two light brown jumprings encircled by another pink one; slide a light brown jumpring onto the pink one just added.

4th, double the newly-added pink jumpring.
