Instructions on Wire Wrapping a Pendant in Chinese Wood Carving Pattern

Chinese wood carving panel is always magnificent and attracting people around the world. Today, I would like to make a wire wrapped pendant which resembles the Chinese style carving pattern. Hope you like it!

Necessities for wire wrapped Chinese wood carving pendant:

1.5mm red aluminum wire
1.5mm golden aluminum wire
1.5mm brown aluminum wire
0.5mm brown copper wire
0.5mm golden copper wire
Brown cross chain
Bead reamer
Round nose plier
Flat nose plier
Wire cutter

Chinese style Wire wrapped pendant necklace instructions:

Step 1: Wire wrap wood carving panel

1st, cut a 30cm length of brown wire and loop one end with reamer’s handle;
2nd, leave a 2cm length and bend the rest wire down;
3rd, leave 6cm height and bend wire into right angle;
4th, continue wire wrapping to make a 4*6 rectangle frame;
5th, leave a 5cm tail at last side and loop the end with bead reamer;
6th, cut off excess brown wire and the wood carving panel is done.

Step 2: Wire wrap carving patterns

1st, cut a long piece of brown copper wire and coil it around the loops;
2nd, do coiling about 8 times and cut off excess copper wire;
3rd, cut a 35cm length of golden aluminum wire and coil one end with round nose;
4th, make coiled end tangent to top and right sides;
5th, coil the other end and make it similarly tangent to the diagonal sides;
6th, do coiling with brown copper wire at the tangent parts;
7th, cut two pieces of 20cm red wire and make two S-shaped components which can be properly inserted into top left and bottom right space;
8th, do coiling with red copper wire at the tangent parts.

Step 3: Finish the wire wrapped pendant

1st, make a pair of brown jump ring;
2nd, cut a 15cm length of brown aluminum wire and make a pendant bail;
3rd, do coiling around the bail;
4th, use jump rings to connect bail to pendant;

Step 4: Finish the necklace

1st, slide bail onto 40cm chain;
2nd, connect end links together.

Tada! The Chinese wood carving pendant is done. Chinese wood carving panel is a kind of precious folk art which has been passed down from generation to generation. This wire wrapped pendant project doesn’t contain any exquisite pattern which can be comparable to the wood carving, but is my solute to this Chinese folk culture.
