DIY a Leaf-Shaped Hair Clip with Colorful Beads and Small Ribbon Flowers

Differing from many felt hair clips, this hair clip uses leaf-shaped felt as a base for adding various embellishments (beads and flowers). For flowers part, I made three handmade ribbon flowers and chose two flower appliques. Also there were three bead caps with beads as flowers. For beads part, imitation pearls and wood beads were given priority to because of pearls’ luster and wood beads’ texture. Let’s see how to make this leaf-shaped hair clip now.

How to make a leaf-shaped hair clip with flowers?

Step 1: make small ribbon flowers and felt leaf shapes

1st, cut out three strips of lilac ribbon measuring about 10cm. Take one strip, running stitch along one long edge and pull the thread tightly;
2nd, sew both ends to make a small ribbon flower. Do the same to make another two small ribbon flowers;
3rd, cut out two leaf shapes from purple felt measuring 11.5cm or so;
4th, overlap the leaf shapes and secure with glue.

Step 2: glue ribbon flowers and appliques

1st, glue a white ribbon flower applique at the top of the leaf shape, then glue three small ribbon flowers on it dispersedly;
2nd, glue three bead caps at vacant spaces as the picture shows;
3rd, attach a bead in appropriate size to each bead cap and purple ribbon flower except for the largest bead cap. Glue a resin cabochon on the largest bead cap;
4th, glue a circle of golden spacer beads around the resin cabochon. Glue a rhinestone flower applique between two ribbon flowers and a 6mm green bead next to it.

Step 3: attach all beads and hair barrette

1st, glue three purple saw toothed beads around the white ribbon flower, then glue colorful wood beads along the edge of the leaf shape;
2nd, glue a hair barrette at back.

All above is the whole process of making a felt leaf-shaped hair clip with beads and flowers. You may find it much simpler than it looks. If you think glue is not firm enough, you can choose to sew some embellishments on before gluing two layers, then glue or sew two layers when adding all embellishments.
