How to Make Hand-Rolled Felt Beads for Jewelry Making at Home

Felt beads are commonly used in making jewelry especially necklaces and bracelets. Felt beads always come in kinds of colors which can be combined with cord and metal wire perfectly. You just need wool roving in different colors and soapy water. 1. Pour warm water and a little dish or liquid hand soap into a small bowl. Too much soap will make the bead cannot cling together.

 

2. Pull the wool roving apart lengthwise, the amount of wool roving determine your bead size.

 

3. Twist the wool at different angles with your fingers into a ball.

 

4. Hold the ball and dip it into the bowl with soapy water for a while.

 

5. Palm the ball and start to roll it around gently with a little soapy water until you feel the ball become firm and tight. Too much pressure will destroy the shape so the strength should be light.

 

6. Dip the bead in very cold water to make it shrink and finalize the shape.

 

7. Soak excess water of the wet bead with a towel, and then put the bead aside to dry.

 

8. Stab a hole through the bead with a needle.

 

Now you can change colors to make colorful felt beads. Practice makes perfect! You can try some times at the beginning if you can’t confirm the amount of wool roving or soap. It is feasible to make other shapes by rolling the wool ball at one certain direction not around. Just try!
